Pallette is a program of Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Arts’ Department of Dance and Choreography that was started in 2014 to enable interdisciplinary health profession students to work with older adults on creative projects. This article discussed the overall program and its current component, dance, and how it is designed “to transcend generational divides and overcome prejudices such as ageism and gerontophobia. “ It offers an excellent example of how an institution of higher education can develop and institutionalize a program that brings together — and benefits — individuals from multiple generations who would otherwise be unknown to one another. It also demonstrates the value off shared experiences in reshaping assumptions and stereotypes about other age groups.
